Another one bites the dust.....!

Are we being treated like human beings by our Corporate Captains? Have they heard of the word 'compassion' or is greed the guiding light for them?

Sadly, we have lost another one of Australia's iconic brands.

"Uncle Tobys" line of snack foods, breakfast cereals and soups has now been sold to Nestle of Switzerland.

The brand was sold by Burns Philp for $890 million.
Money being the main concern yet once again!

Dick Smith commented yesterday by saying: " 85% of all goods in the average supermarket trolley are now owned by overseas interests!"

 :???:

Consecutive federal governments, as long a I can remember, have done little to protect or encourage local industry, citing "the level playing field" as the reason.

The "level playing field" internationally is about as level as the sails on the Sydney Opera House.

Things move so fast in the Corporate world that I havce no clue what we still own.
Most of the old iconic brands have all gone overseas and as donander says, the governments haven't been able
to stop it.

Money, money, money........its a rich man's world!

Ausbuy, http://ausbuy.com.au/ ,has a list of brands which are still Australian owned today. But that may change tomorrow! :teary

It is not only the brands that are sold ...
I have seen a frightening report (I think it was on ABC ...?)
that our future food-supply is being sold to foreign owners.
Cattle, vineyards, farms, thousands (more likely millions) of hectares are owned by
mainly the Chinese, also USA, Canada etc, etc :punching
Old is always fifteen years from now.

If i remember its the same old theme, they
sell the family jewelry then when things go
bad they have nothing to fall back on.

In short sell it to avoid responsibility. :icon-mrgreen:

When was the last time anyone felt they could refer to a politician and say I admire and trust that person? I think we have been deliberately shooed into feeling sceptical about their intentions no matter what!

I'll second that Maggs!

Honest politician? Isn't that an oxymoron?

Arcty, I saw that on TV not very long ago. I think it was about dairy farmers in the Burnett area.
They were offered 50cents for their milk but it costs them 58cents to produce.
So, they decided to sell out.....or similar.

Australia once relied on our farmers to survive. Wasn't the saying that "Australia was built on the sheeps back"?
Today, we hardly own any farming/grazing areas or just a few. What a shame.
The overseas based multinational companies have a large stronghold on our land. I think we should revolt and fight them on the beaches! :angry-devil: :angry-devil:
