I wonder does anyone still assemble model aeroplanes, ships etc?

I do Mavis... model RC aircraft !

They are known as "foamies".... constructed of lightweight polystyrene.
Easily smashed on bad landings or crash impact but so easy to repair. Starting price for starters kit around $200 for an aircraft with a wingspan of around one metre.

Gotta fly now but will post more info later on.

Here's a nice 18 minute instructional video on youtube.... he's just a young bloke but very good.
His aircraft is almost identical to mine.

..... and these guys from flite test (Josh & Josh) are my absolute favourites for flight testing. They have so many youtube links for the planes they've tested/

Digital modelling for me, though I don't get much time for it, unfortunately.

Thanks Mavis !... :icon_biggrin:
One piece of advice I can give to anyone taking up flying these remote control aircraft, is to do some practice on a computer based flight simulator.
My remote control panel is an entry-level unit but the more expensive ones allow you to plug into your computer and fly to your heart's content without cost.
I say that because my first few learning flights in the field resulted in lots of down time carrying out repairs and buying replacement parts.
Nowadays, I do most of my "flying" with the legendary "microsoft flight simulator X".
Sure, it's ten year old software but is still cutting edge by today's standards.
Hundreds of aircraft and also hundreds of airports around the world can be chosen from the program.
My favourite is flying the F18 from Albion Park Airfield near Wollongong.

Do yourself a favour Mavis and get them down.
Are they petrol engine or electric/battery ?
Most these days are polylithium battery powered.... the batteries are plactic and ultra lightweight. Flying time varies from 7 minutes to around 10 minutes depending on throttle use.
Yeah.... I too keep watching those YouTube videos.... in particular "Flite Test".... yeah, Josh & Josh sometimes come across as playful types (wankers) but they know their stuff.

The ones I have are thenones you asemble. They dont do anything but they require a lot of careful nimble fingers and concentration. I lack both these days.

Maybe collector item status ?
Could be worth some dollars on eBay.
