The F word.

Post by mavisbramston » 18 Aug 2017, 07:59

I find it odd and always have found it odd that a word that simply means sexual intercourse is a swear word. I wonder why something extremely pleasant is a swear word?
Mind you its a rather effective word.
I actually dont mind swear words. Hang on....let me qualify and explain.
Used at the right time and with discretion swearing can be extremely effective. These words colour the language.
The trouble is the words have lost their power. I hear people using the F word with almost every second word. A noun, an adjective and well you get my gist.
The word has become ineffective and boring. Not offensive...boring.

Yes. It wouldn't be very effective to say "Not very sexual intercoursing likely!" Cock, cunt, fuck, piss and shit became socially unacceptable after the Norman invasion, so we've been culturally stuck in the past for a good while. While I think it's good that these words are in use again, their use as expletives does become unimaginative and boring. I remember as a young teenager being advised to not say "Crumbs!" in every second sentence. Originally an avoidance of the blasphemous use of "Christ!", it lost its punch, became just boring, and faded away. I guess 'fuck' will too.

When I was a boy,I can remember the old action movies, with people like John Wayne, and many others. One of them has always remained in my memory. "To Hell and Back",the life story of Audie Murphy, who played himself. One of the most gory movies I can remember, but not one foul word was uttered. Another one, more recent, was "Saving Private Ryan". Again, not one foul word that I can remember, but it was still considered a great movie.
What has changed, that causes people to include f***,and other unnecessary words, every second time they open their mouths?

Slapsy, I think it can just become a habit, as my 'Crumbs!' did with me. I remember hearing "I bloody well can't get the bloody thing to bloody move!"

I thought I'd changed the setting for swear words. An expletive used at the right time can be very effective, but otherwise they add nothing, and are just a lazy intensifier.

I've removed the censoring of these words. However, if they are used offensively, I'll put the offender in the sin bin.

No stars on my screen. It must be something to do with your computer settings.

Fascinating. I think they are perfectly suitable words. Ithink if they are used with hate or venom they are unacceptable. Good on you for removing the censorship. I wont be using the words unless needed though.
When is a word foul? Is sex vulgar? Actually I applaud perrorist removing the censor block.
Most of these have been used in classic theatre and literature. I will never understand why people are so ridiculously hung up about them. In USA the constant blooping on tv is more annoying than any swear word.

Notice that people upset about swearing etc are often angered by political correctness and the lack of free speech. Talk about contradictions.

I wonder if Ray will have me back, but that wouldn't matter would it,Mavis? You are over there too, aren't you,and this same type of post went down like a lead balloon over there too. And that was before all the troublemakers were kicked out.

I dont understand your post at all slapsy.
You clearly have a better memory than I do. Most of my memoriess are pretty foggy about that site.
I dont think discussing another site that you were unfairly sacked from is of interest to readers here. Send me a pvt if you want to have another go at me.
Stick to the issue.
Enough of that.
I have always believed censorship is wrong and societys prudish attitudes to mere words is absurd. I dont care if people disagree, they are allowed to.
I dont have the same moral attitudes as others and guess what ...I dont want them. I dont respect conventional morality. I obey it and the rules but no one said I had to respect them.
I would rather watch a hot porn movie or strip show or a Tiv revue than a western or a rerun of Ben Hur.
I am making the point and I am not alone that we have become prudish. Today if you watch many shows they bleep swear words, cover genitals and boobs . I find it insulting as an adult.
I very much doubt that anyone who saw the swear words above commited suicide and went into cardiac arrest.

There is no need for any private messages mavis. I have already told you, privately, that you are a fraud. There is nothing else to say.
