WOW, think I would fire that techie of yours at dawn! Hope he is cheap and probably hasn't got a licence.
No one can afford to ignore "updates" of any programs. They don't make "updates" for no reasons at all, they have a purpose, every one of them.
Usually, they fix security issues and quite often they do address system faults as well.
Downloading a 'repair program' and taking out a 12 mths contract is a very big NO NO for all computer users.
That program has probably got all your personal data by now.
My suggestion REFORMAT hard drive but first save your essential details to a separate USB drive.
Or get a decent techie to do it for you.
The other issue is that Win10 is releasing a massive update this months, I think it is tomorrow.
Anyone buying a new computer or a new Win10 disk should make sure that the Windows 10 Creators Update

@ Buck, make sure that you get your Win 8.1 updates fixed because otherwise you will not be able to upgrade to WIN10 later.
