Virus warning

Post by Dreamweaver » 25 Oct 2017, 20:39

Today I received a virus warning, said I had 3 trojans, to download and run anti virus. This came from a website, not from any of my programs, so I shut it all down then went back and ran Malwarebytes, and sure enough it did put away 3 trojans. I had thought it was all a trap!

I also wanted to run my AVG Free, but I can't find it. I think something else I downloaded once automatically installed McAfee (which I didn't want) and shut out AVG. :flaming_mad I can find AVG PCTune-up which I haven't ever signed up to, and $AVG which when I look in there leads me to an old vault!

MalwareBytes is all you need, along with Windows own Defender. I'd delete the other stuff. If you can afford it, upgrade to the Pro version of MalwareBytes and you'll get real-time protection.

DW, did you download or updated ADOBE lately? That automatically loads McAfee Antivirus unless you untick it during the update.

I use Malwarebytes (Premium) and AVAST and have turned DEFENDER off. Touch wood, so far, so good!

Thanks for the warning!

Right. But that is why I was surprised that there really were trojans there, which Malwarebytes found and dealt with!

There is a very nasty virus heading 'Down Under". Make sure that you don't expose yourself.

Avoid being caught by the "Bad Rabbbit".

Thought I should pay up and get Malwarebytes premium, and looking for the cost came across this review video. I looked at the comments too. Tell me it's not true, just a fabrication by their opposition!

I didn't watch the video (too long) but I read the comments and it sounded like a different product to the one I use. I have no performance issues and it traps threats effectively. I run other anti-virus checks from time to time and nothing seems to have slipped past Malwarebytes. I use the Pro version.

I meant to come back on this earlier but got waylaid.

I watched the video right through and then copied his idea of planting a couple of baddies on my computer.
He was right because Malwarebytes only caught 3 from five whereas Zemana caught them all!
This guy "Malware Geek" has a few other vtdeos on YouTube and I found that his tests are all spot on.
He seems to have a very sound reputation and understanding f Malware and I will be using Zemana as a backup from now on.

To make matters interesting Malwarebytes TODAY released a new version of their program but I haven't tested it yet against other offering. I use MB Premium, the paid version!
