Planning on moving SP

Post by Perrorist » 14 Nov 2017, 08:20

At some stage I shall be moving SilverPeers and my own sites off of UberGlobal to a different host provider. Uber was taken over some months ago by NetRegistry, which also has a poor reputation. The result has been even worse performance and support.

I'll give advanced warning of when this will happen, as there will be a short period off the air.

Thank you Perry. I hope everything goes smoothly in the change.

It's probably weeks away, but by posting it here I can't ignore it.

I haven't yet started on the move because we're being migrated (forcibly, like Manus Island detainees) to a new provider, TPP Wholesale. It will take place on Wednesday, 29 November, and judging by the comments on another site it's unlikely to go smoothly. In any event, as the Silver Peers domain name will have to be pointed to new servers, we may be off the air for a time.

Out of the frying pan and into another frying pan as far as I'm concerned, and I'm still intent on moving to a safe haven. I've already spoken to a new provider with an excellent reputation and the boss man has promised to help in any way he can.

I've decided to get moving, as some of the stories I'm hearing about this forced migration are unnerving. I'm beginning with my own sites on Monday, and if all goes well I'll move SP across in the following days.

It looks as if some recent posts have disappeared. I was warned this might happen.

Yes, a few of mine have gone, probably about a week's worth, but none of great import! We can always repeat ourselves now if we or anyone else wishes. :icon_biggrin:

If you can remember what you posted, post them again, Biggdad.
If you can't remember, they must have been in the same category as mine!

Yes, November 24. That's last Friday. Weird. I haven't moved our site to my new provider yet, but will do so when I get the next opportunity.
