Looks like the dualies can lie low lurking in the background until they are outed by an 'audit'.
Snouts in the trough, collecting a kings ransom for doing nuffin'
and no penalty for being a lying rat.

Time for Guy Fawkes 2.0 ?

Good assessment Buck! =D= =D= =D=

Is the duality also applicable to State Governments?
Qld is gearing up for a vote end Nov and it should be noted that we should be clear on who we are voting for!

Here is an interesting report, which makes a mockery of most of their excuses :

It could just be the preliminary though,if this one gains any traction :

While I dont always agree with Josh Frydenberg he was my local member a few years ago. He was no Petro Georgio but he was actually very pleasant. I got to speak to him a few times. He was always willing to listen.
I think his dircumstances at the moment on citizenship are totally different. He does not deserve this kind of scrutiny he is getting from some in social media.
Many holocaust survivors were in similar circumstances.

All pollies are subject to the law, regardless of how they construe their citizenship status. Frydenberg has begun the process of discovery, so we'll just have to wait and see.

But,why didn't he do it at the time he filled out this form ? Why wait till now, when he has been caught out?

It would have rang a few alarm bells for me if I was intending to stand.

Quite right, or Turnbull wouldn't be so alarmed at the prospect. Lets's start the "witch hunt".

One thing I am not sure about is what exactly is the problem with dual nationalities ?I tend to think it could be a good thing.
On the other hand knowing the rules and not following them seems to be the major issue.

The law is the law.
we all have to obey it from the top to the bottom of society.
That said, no doubt this being driven to topple the trumble government.
Normally, a by election would come up from some pollie dropping dead rooting a hooker
aka Billy Sneddon, but that has not happened..yet.

Mavis, I understand that the constitution precludes anyone from being in our government if they have any kind of allegiance to a foreign government (including New Zealand or Britain).....seems to be on the basis that they cannot serve two masters. Being a dual citizen therefore makes them inelegable
to be elected in the first place.

Emphasis added by me!
(i) Allegiance to a foreign power
Subsection 44(i) has generally been interpreted by the High Court of Australia as meaning that persons with dual citizenship are not permitted to stand for election and that a person must take "reasonable steps" to renounce their citizenship of the other country.[7] Its interpretation has been difficult.[8] There is the preliminary awkwardness that the Constitution itself does not require a member of the Parliament to be an Australian Citizen,[9][10] although Constitution s 42 does require members to swear an oath or affirmation of allegiance to the monarch; however, Australian citizenship has been made a statutory condition of eligibility for election.[11]

In 1981 a committee of the Senate recommended that s 44(i) be removed, although with the insertion of a new provision requiring Australian citizenship[12]; as did the Constitutional Commission report of 1988.[13] In 1997 a committee of the House of Representatives, whose report predicted some of the difficulties that have since arisen, recommended three changes to the Constitution: "delete subsection 44(i); insert a new provision requiring candidates and members of parliament to be Australian citizens; [and] empower parliament to enact legislation determining the grounds of disqualification of members of parliament in relation to foreign allegiance".[14]

Compared to other Anglosphere nations, this is an unusual law. Neither the British Parliament nor the US Congress, both of which served as models for the Australian Parliament, forbid dual citizens from holding office.[15][16] Canada[17] and New Zealand[18] similarly have no prohibitions on MPs holding dual citizenship.
