The greens are pushing for more green.

The Greens leader, Richard Di Natale
wants to legalisation recreational marijuana.
His idea is to shut down drug dealers and allow people to access "clean" pot from legal outlets.
There's some merit in his thinking....
much like the yanks who ended prohibition to stamp out crime an corruption in the booze industry.
But..... I reckon he's got Buckley's of getting any support from the Libs and Labor camps.
What are your thoughts on this ?

"The Greens leader, a former drug and alcohol doctor, said Australia’s tough approach to drugs had caused enormous harm."

I certainly go along with him. Have heard the whole banning exercise initially was a fabrication to stop hemp competing with the big steel industry. Tobacco and alcohol are worse drugs than pot.
I dream, therefore I am.

I think that it should be allowed for relief of pain for cancer sufferers, or terminally ill people.
Margaret Whitlam suggested this very same thing years ago, when Gough was Prime Minister.

Cant believe that I am saying this, but I agree with the Greens. The ONLY reason pot is illegal is that the government has trouble taxing it and/or controlling home growers. If its health dangers were a real concern for the government, they would already have banned tobacco and alcohol.......the bunch of hypocrites. :hitting_wall

I've never smoked weed — can't stand the smell of it — but I fail to see how it's much different to smoking tobacco, except tobacco is probably far worse for your health (I packed up 45 years ago).

Minor parties can write cheques they know will never be cashed.
all care no responsibility.
How will society be better off with more drug crazed maggots wandering the streets
and driving around in cars in a stupor?
The greens sit down money aka universal basic income is money for nuffin and drugs for free.
we will be turning into a nation of aborigines, sitting around drunk and drugged, getting into crime and violence
suicide and domestic violence, child abuse, a road to nowhere. :character-oldtimer: :character-oldtimer:

This is why I love silver peers. I can NEVER predict your opinions. Firstly there was overwheming support here for marriage equality. Now you support reforming laws of dope. In Amerstam its controlled and there are fewer problems. There are many hash cafes.
You are a wonderfully progressive community.
Actually I love the smell but also love the smell of pipes and cigars. I no longer smoke weed because I dont enjoy it any more.
I think most of us have had the odd joint in our youth. It used to make me incredibly horny.

So many of the Greens proposals end up being legislated. Takes time, though.

Colorado has legalised it since 2014.
Its generating serious revenue and is taxed at 28% from 3 different taxes.
What happens when some cleverdick gene splicer blends in genes from other psychotropic plants
and makes a super addictive equivalent to ice.
Like tobacco the goal is to get people addicted as quickly as possible and keep taking it til they die .
Nothing good will come from more drugs, -look at the amount of work being done to get people off tobacco
Why create a tobacco 2.0.
A big nah, nope, never from me. :character-oldtimer:

Buck, weed is widely smoked. Legalising it won't make much difference to its distribution, but it will knock out the dealer chains, and reduce the prison population as well.

Mavis, you and I often agree or disagree, but in this instance we are of one mind.......buck needs a joint - preferably as a suppository.

who wants their kids to have ready access to more drugs?
Kid walks to school with his pocket money, stops at the corner store: "i'll have 50 cents worth of mixed lollies and a cuppla joints thanks"

Nah, nope, never.

Nuffin good comes from alcohol , drugs, gambling and guns.

and who are often the victims/collateral damage of drug abuse? women and children.
