No thanks to Abbott and liberal national parties.

Its the erratic output that from renewables that is the problem.
sun-cloud-wind-lack of wind, hydro-droughts... yada yada yada
hard to beat the ole coal fired generator punching out the same amount of power 24/7.

Yep coal is cool and it is not about to go away anytime soon
until renewables can fill the space. :character-oldtimer:

As I understand it, the power generated by hydro systems is such that it not only generates power for public consumption but makes enough to power pumps to return the water to its high original storage point. THAT sounds like a winner to me. :nahnahnah

From what i understand 'pumped hydro' works this way:
when power prices are low they use that cheap power to pump water back up the hill
when power prices are high they turn on the generators and the water runs back down to the bottom of the hill.
which makes me think they will need a dam not only at the top of the hill, but also at the bottom of the hill.
If they start pumping water direct from the river back up the hill it will make the river run backwards.
that cannot be good. :eek :eek :eek :eek

The last time they conducted a feasibility study into this, they concluded it was too expensive.

The advent of large storage systems will take care of fluctuations. It's starting to happen now and is accelerating, with newer technologies under development.

The Greens policies do work on energy and a wide range of other issues. People with vision are rarely admired in Australia.
Australians want band aids and quick fixes.

Various governments in this country have been aware of this growing problem for years now and have done little or nothing about it. If we dont get a "quick fix" soon, we will all spend this summer in a lather of sweat while staring at our non-functioning air conditioners.

Turnbull's trying to lay the blame at Shorten's feet, but it was the LNP that scrapped the carbon tax. What happened to the saving of $800 pa that Abbott promised?

Turnbull and Abbot more and more become voices to ignore.
