Baking Soda - very versatile

Post by godfather » 19 Jun 2017, 22:14

Didn't know how versatile this stuff was until I came across this link:

http://www.care2.com/greenliving/51-fan ... -soda.html

You'll need to read it yourself to realise that it should be a staple household item!

Yep. My parents swore by it. Particularly necessary in washing the milk/cream separator, as we sold cream to the butter factory, which must not be tainted with soap. (Tainted cream, not butter factory! )

.
We were taught about the uses of baking soda in domestic science at school. I've used it to clean my fridge ever since.

Also taught us not to put it in the water when cooking vegetables which my mom always did. Anyone know why she did that?

A 'small' pinch could help preserve the colour of certain veggies and correct the water ph if too acid.
But baking soda destroys nutrients-certain vitamins. hence the emphasis on 'small pinch'.

We keep an open box in the fridge to absorb smells.
