WHY - I CRY

Post by Mahalia » 21 Mar 2018, 18:15

WHY - I CRY ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

My tears they are falling like soft summer rain,
but why am I crying when I'm not in pain
My sad heart is bleeding though blood I don't see,
but I bleed for the world friend - I don't bleed for me.

My days are awash with the anger and angst
of a world going crazy - a world without thanks,
or politeness, or respect, or kindness I fear
that is why I am weeping, why I shed a tear.

I weep for the children, those orphaned, alone
the innocent victims of war, with no home
to offer them shelter, no parent to care
any more, for they've vanished as if in thin air.

I cry for the animals those without voice
who are forced to give service with nary a choice,
be they dogs that are caged for the products of birth,
or those destined for food chains - mere dollars their worth.

I sob for the aged, the halt and the lame
for those without hope and with no claim to fame,
for the ill and the dying - Earth's humanity
is the reason I'm crying these tears, not for me.

And there's little enough one can do in one life
to alleviate sorrow, to help stop the strife
that the world is beset with - one man can but try ...
and I do, but those teardrops still fall from my eye.

Pray for peace, pray for wisdom and relief from pain
then tomorrow God willing just do it again,
and like stones in a pond thrown, the ripples might spread
like a soft gentle kindness through the world instead.
