Products long gone

Post by mavisbramston » 05 Sep 2019, 09:43

I apologise if I have brought this to forum land before, put it down to another memory lapse...I have many.
I was thinking of a lovely soup mum used t,o buy.
I am making traditional scotch broth butmy mum loathend cooking.
She used to buy a caned scotch broth. I remember loving it.
I think it was Vacola scotch broth.
Anyone recall it.
Do you recall a drink, way before the almost defunct Claytons..it was I am sure non alcoholic syrup which you added to soft drink.. it was called CHICOLA.

ANY PRODUCTS YOU RECALL AND CAN YOU HELP ME OUT WITH MY TWO?

Oh and ladies...Gossamer hair spray

My mom used to buy tinned soup and loved Mulligatawny? and it came in a can with a picture of ' the stag at bay' on it. Used to fascinate me as a kid.
She used to buy broken biscuits by weight........out of a tin that everyone had had a feel round in. No chance of that now.
Post war England was a bit short of all the good things.

Can't help you out on yours though mavis. Soz

I remember mulligatawny soup. Up until a year ago, I was able to buy pork pies locally, but they've stopped selling them now. I have jars of home-made pickled red cabbage now rendered useless.

We used to eat lambs fry quite often, but we can't find that locally now either.

Good heavens. Looks like it might be it. Very popular in fifties. A very nice looking bottle in those days.
Thank you very much

Rivella was invented in Switzerland in the early 1950s, a soft drink with a whey base. It has been imported, but recently the company has started operating in Perth, I think. https://swiss-goodies-australia.square. ... /1?cs=true
