Pronunciation

Post by Dreamweaver » 26 Mar 2019, 21:18

Although he was
a ploughman,
rough-coated,
dough-faced,
he was thoughtful
as he strode through
the streets of Scarborough.
The medication for his cough
caused him to hiccough,
and he fell into a slough.

So how do you pronounce 'ough'?
I dream, therefore I am.

Thank you, Perry.

He'd had enough,
and fell into a slough.

Thank you, Lynny. Where can I insert 'bough'? I've run out of ideas!
That would make 12 different pronunciations of 'ough'.
No! Of course I'm wrong - three of them rhyme. :text-imsorry:
Make it 10.
But I still need to get 'bough' in.
I dream, therefore I am.

There's also sough which is the noise the wind makes in trees but I would think hasn't been used in a while. Nice word though.
I have no decent suggestions as to where to stick that bough. :icon-mrgreen:

Lucy and Dezi made it all sound quite ridiculous didn't they.
