During the past 30 days, Australia was shaken by 1 quake of magnitude 7.7, 10 quakes between 6.0 and 7.0, 117 quakes between 5.0 and 6.0, 83 quakes between 4.0 and 5.0, 79 quakes between 3.0 and 4.0, and 100 quakes between 2.0 and 3.0. There were also 34 quakes below magnitude 2.0 which people don't normally feel.

It was around this time 10 years ago when the tsunami crashed the Fukushima nuclear facility. At the time, we were on board a cruise ship somewhere in the Pacific. We were told we couldn't make landfall until the tsunami threat was over. We eventually missed out one port of call and stayed out at sea for another day.

When I saw the damage on TV that Japan suffered, I found it difficult to take in. It was like the most over-the-top disaster movie you could imagine.

These recent reports, as well as the activity the other day off the east coast of North Island, are disturbing. Let's hope they come to nothing.
