Hooray for HOLLYWOOD

Post by mavisbramston » 10 May 2020, 10:00

If you have Netflix and have not seen the mini series Hollywood I recommend it highly but with a caution.
I loved it in fact we all did.
We ended up watching it in a binge. Every episode. Thats pretty rare for us.
Firstly it is soap, quality soap but soap just the same.
Its a very over the top story line but it really gets you in.
The acting is excellent.
Patti Lapone , one of the great stars of Broadway musicals gives a knock out performance.
The series is fantasy.
It is rather like the way Tarrantino mainpulates history.
Forget facts and reality this is the way things should have or could have been. Theres no reality.
Jim Parsons from Big Bang Theory is rivetting.
I could never get into Big Bang but in this he gives an extraordinary performance. I predict he will get an Emmy.
CAUTION.. If you are a little prudish hating contemporary language (swearing) and sexuality in all its forms then give Hollywood a miss.
If however you want to see visually splendid comedy drama with a great script and perfect acting. Watch Hollywood.

Sounds promising. Still getting through the line-up of programs on Stan that we've identified since starting a subscription.

Love to know what you think of Hollywood. It is beautifully dressed too. The costumes and hair styles are magnificent.
Patti Lapone, looks glorious.

I thought HOLLYWOOD was great! Hair, makeup, costumes and sets were all so good.
A bit predictable I suppose but what's a story anyway. And those cars!

That Rock Hudson! I wanted to smack him

Incidentally, Tarantino wrote and produced the movie 'Once upon a time in Hollywood' set in the 60s with Leonardo de Thingy and other notables.
HOLLYWOOD is a Netflix original series set in post war America. Definitely worth watching though - if you sensitive souls heed Mavis's warnings.

Can't think how David and Margaret would rate it.........5 stars from me :number_1

Thanks dream. I think Patti is brilliant.
Glad you liked it lynny
It was great too that mature actors like Patti Lapone Holland Taylor and Queen Latifa got decent meaty roles
