I remember reading a science fiction story about a society that seems a LOT like China today.

The difference between science fiction and science fact is usually just a matter of time.

I couldn't help thinking that much of what China is doing is what many Australians want here. The conforming of immigrants to their new country's values and behaviour.
I dream, therefore I am.

I remember reading 1984 and Brave New World when I was young. We thought they were just an allegory for the Soviet Union.

1984 seemed a lifetime away when I watched it on TV in the 50s.
I believe Big Brother was on TV around then too.
I know that I thought...as if!......

Day of the Triffids might not be too far off :eek

Some day people will have to sit down and REALLY think about how much of their human and civil rights they are prepared to give up in exchange for what our governments describe as "safety". They use scare tactics to convince us to allow greater powers for law enforcement and our military while watching every aspect of our lives - "for our own good".

It's insidious, and both parties are complicit because they don't want to be seen as "soft" on security.
