This is a digusting breach of privacy!

What sort of a culture puts their women through such a humiliating thing as this////
There is NO SIMILAR TEST FOR THE MEN! Why am I not surprised!
Are Indian Men so insecure that they have to condone this sort of invasion of privacy????

Its horrid. Not much to add. I am tired of people saying things such as we must respect their culture. Bull.

We can't imagine why this kind of thing happens. It's cultural, and its origins obscure. Education is clearly the best way to bring change about.

Medieval Virginity Testing and Virginity Restoration
http://www.historyundressed.com/2015/02 ... g-and.html
In the Middle Ages, virginity was a sought-after commodity,
primarily because it was the surest method to guarantee paternity.
The only way to make absolutely sure that a child born to a marriage--
a child who would inherit property from his father-- is a legitimate heir
was to bed a virgin bride.
The most obvious way to verify a woman’s virginity was to inspect the hymen.
While this was commonplace in the Middle Ages, it was not infallible.
Some women are born without hymens and others rupture theirs prematurely
doing the strenuous activities that comprised women’s work in the medieval era.
It fell to midwives to do hymen inspections.
I dream, therefore I am.

With respect Dreamweaver, that was in the past. THIS IS NOW!
What I want to know is, why is it still happening???? We are supposed to be better informed in this day and age. There is no excuse for this sort of obscenity.
It shows a complete lack f respect for women. Especially referring to the bride as "THE PRODUCT!"

We are talking about an ancient culture with beliefs and customs firmly rooted in the past. They wont be dragged into the 21st Century overnight, but it will happen in time. As more and more women become better educated and rise to more powerful and influential positions, they will slowly effect change. Just look at Saudi Arabia.....women can now get a legal drivers license and I understand that movie theatres there have started to re-open........change comes in time.
