Decimate. If you think you know it you might be surprised to read https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-03/ ... 0/11459980
This is a blow to me - I just love word origins. But yes, meanings have to change. :teary
The demand that words retain a prior meaning in the face of current usage is known as the etymological fallacy. It is also stupid: salaries are no longer used to buy salt; a liaison is no longer a thickening sauce made from egg yolks; quarantine no longer refers, as it once did, to the period of 40 days during which a widow has the right to remain in her deceased husband's estate. Fortunately for journalists, a deadline is no longer a physical line outside a military prison beyond which would-be escapees are shot.
I dream, therefore I am.

I hadn't realised that, but a little thought expands understanding.

The old words that could be worth reinstating might be used like this -

“It’s Friday, and I’m going to fudgel my way to the weekend.”
Terrence had been known to groke when his dorm mates would come back with Taco Bell.
The internet is a wasteland of sciolists and trolls.
Ginny was a slugabed and once crushed her alarm clock with a brick.
Pauline could verily be a tool
He was senior adviser to the snollygoster-in-chief. (Though Kellyanne Conway is female)
“Sarah, your apanthropy is getting old; you can’t spend another weekend alone with mac and cheese and romcoms.”
He dramatically coughed into the phone to egrote his way out of the big PowerPoint presentation that day.
He went into the interview confident, but soon felt the shivviness of his new briefs and the sweat under his collar.
Adam’s state of uhtceare kept him up the night before the convention, as he worried whether his cosplay would make the grade.
I dream, therefore I am.

Occhiolism
My occhiolism shows me my life, my experiences, my thoughts, however vast or narrow they may be in the end, will always be limited.

He has made his road to fame.
There is no one as good as he is at inventing words.

Kakistocracy

How many countries are kakistocracies now? Is Australia a democracy or a kakistocracy?

Quite a few. The US is obviously one, but we're close behind.

I just came across esquipedalian, a favourite word of Frances Harding. I haven't yet looked it up, am trying to imagine what it means!
