Post by mavisbramston »

Well I was listening to late night radio. ABC of course! Is there any other group of stations?
Here is a new word

INTERROBANG
Well it is a new word for me at least. Some of you clever folk may know it.

OK word masters and mistresses
What does this mean?
Can you display one? :happy-sunshine:

Combined ! and ?
A sentence ending with an interrobang asks a question in an excited manner, expresses excitement or disbelief in the form of a question, or asks a rhetorical question.[6]

For example:

You call that a knife‽
Are you out of your mind‽
What are those‽

Here's a word I've seen a few times recently: "freemium". According to Wikipedia it means "a pricing strategy by which a basic product or service is provided free of charge, but money (a premium) is charged for additional features, services, or virtual (online) or physical (offline) goods that expand the functionality of the free version of the software".

Seems the practice dates back to 1995, but in 2006 Fred Wilson extols the method on his blog:- "I would like to have a name for this business model. We’ve got words like subscription, ad supported, license, and ASP, that are well understood. Do we have a word for this business model? If so, I don’t know it."
Thirty-three comments and much debate later and Jared Lukin, then of Alacra, wins with his term for this business model: freemium.

I think very few new words have an actual starting date!
I dream, therefore I am.

Thanks, DW, that's interesting. I've always known it as "upselling". I see a lot of this with software products.
