I'm thinking of metaphysics and paranoia. Is meta above, beyond, further? Noia lacks a g if it is to do with gnosis (or a k if with knowledge). Puzzled. 8-[

You're not too far off.

Or a change of mind or lifestyle arising from further knowledge or deeper thought?
It's not often I get so close!

What about titin? A small word to describe the largest something in the human body, but its technical name is . . . . what?

It's not a large thing in itself, just the largest in its category, and is in the body though you might not say part of it? And to put you all out of your misery regarding part of the question, the technical name for it is -

Below is the full 189,819-lettered word for 'titin'

I can't imagine why you would want to abbreviate it to 'titin', unless you were lazy.

I have trouble with covert and latent.
I think I know but I have a feeling I have been wrong.

Covert is unexposed, hidden, secret; latent is unrealised, e.g. latent potential.

Mentioning covert reminded me that many words beginning in 'cov' were pronounced 'cuv' when I was young. The tendency today is to pronounce some of them as 'cove'. Covert is a good example. I shall stick with the old pronunciation.

They are so similar. I look at covert as covered, and often applied to an action.
I look at latent as lying in wait, and often applied to ability, or talent.

The difference I see is that when covert is exposed, it ceases to be covered up.
Latent is not so much exposed as coming to fruition, developing.

Related is esoteric, covered up but can be discovered by some without being exposed to all.

But when you think about it, I don't think they're as clear cut as I imagine. They're all a bit on the secret side.
