The stock market is not the real economy. We're also in a per-capita recession (i.e. per person, not in aggregate, because of the increase in population).

Roy Morgan unemployment survey:
In May 1.37 million Australians were unemployed (10.3% of the workforce) with an additional 1.22 million (9.2%) now under-employed.

ABS uses fixed sampling whereas Roy Morgan uses face to face interviews.

Roy Morgan is adamant that its estimates reflect the true picture, which is understandable when you examine how the ABS gets its figures.

Statistics are based on numerous criteria and input and as with any computer program, what goes in determines what comes out. How much faith can we have in government statistics these days when the government determines "what goes in".
