Democracy At Work with Richard D. Wolff
Listen without watching if that suits. First 15 minutes is about China's remarkable economics, but the second 15 minutes gives an insight into why!

I've been reading posts from both mainland Chinese and from Hong Kongese. Many agree that Hong Kong is not being subject to protesters, but to rioters inspired/supported/organised by USA. American military grade weapons, illegal there, are being used by them.

I knew China was doing well economically, but I didn't know Canada is the only other country not falling behind! Apparently a lot of backward steps, but a larger proportion of forward ones?

What I didn't know is that Hong Kong's own legislation caused the riots, according to these links.
Murder of a Hong Kong girl by her Hong Kong partner, while in Taiwan, meant he could safely return to Hong Kong without trial. Hong Kong has now scrapped that legislation.

The USA is implicated in the Hong Kong riots. China plays a long game though, and the decision not to proceed with the extradition bill is a stopgap measure to defuse the protests.

.Tony Kwok has a B. S Sociology & International Business, lives in Hong Kong., and is answering the question "Is there proof that the 2019 Hong Kong protesters are paid?"
He says -
"We should ask: Are there ANY protesters being paid? According to my research, a bunch of protesters, especially the most violent ones, have been paid or have received various kind of benefits for doing their vandalizing.
For example, on August 1st, the Hong Kong Police searched two flats and seized items including petrol bombs, baseball bats, sharpened walking sticks, walkie-talkie, bows and arrows, metal balls, protective gear, smoke bombs, chemicals for making gunpowder, and HK$500,000 (US$63,800) in cash… what do you think those cash were for?
During this summer, a total of 163 dangerous drug cases were detected and about 334.4 kilograms of different kinds of suspected dangerous drugs with an estimated market value of about HK$126 million (around US$16 million) were seized. The seizures included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, ecstasy, ketamine and cannabis. I don’t think all the drugs have been discovered, considering how busy the police has been recently. So where and whom do you think the unfound drugs have gone?"

Does it look as if China could take over the world without nuclear war, without genocide, without military mobilisation, without germ warfare, in fact without any force at all? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-BmI7ht9rHs

As time goes by, do we know any more? Here is an article from Counterpunch,a source I haven't seen before.
https://www.counterpunch.org/2019/09/13 ... -of-china/
It does point out that there are 85,000 American citizens currently working in Hong Kong who want to protect their status.
