Will Trump run again?

Post by Perrorist »

He's expected to announce another presidential bid today. If he does, it'll be in defiance of the shift away from his candidates in the mid-terms. However, he may do it to block prosecution for his nefarious activities. We shall soon see.

The U.S. voting system is a convoluted mess with their "electoral college" system. Where else in the world can a candidate win the majority of votes in an election and still be denied the Presidency? Could Trump become President again?....... to quote an often used expression - "Only in America"

Oh God help us - I do hope not :eek Reading the news over the past few months has been quite pleasurable with not having him and Scomo hogging the headlines.

Sadly, he has declared he's running. However, he's just the first and may well have competitors for being the Republican party's nominee. No-one can predict what the state of affairs in the US will be in two years' time, so who knows how all this will play out.

Rupert has definitely disowned him. I like the New York Post's headline at the foot of its front page: FLORIDA MAN MAKES ANNOUNCEMENT. The article is relegated to page 26.

This time around there'll be no help from Ivanka. https://en.newsner.com/news/ivanka-trum ... aign-2024/
Ivanka Trump snubs Donald’s presidential campaign

“While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena. I am grateful to have had the honor of serving the American people and I will always be proud of many of our Administration’s accomplishments.”

According to a New York Post source, Trump tried to persuade Ivanka and Jared to join him in his campaign but failed.

“Trump thought he could convince Ivanka this weekend to come back and campaign for him as she was the most requested speaker after the president himself last time around,” the source said.

“But so far she’s resisting his entreaties and holding firm, as is Jared. They both feel they got burned in Washington and don’t want to go back and expose themselves and their children to another bitter campaign.”

Give him enough rope and time and he is sure to hang himself.
His legal problems should keep him too busy for much campaigning.

Other candidates should be forewarned about his tactics and turn his attacks back on him.

What worries me is the division amongst the people, so many supporting him despite those against. Another civil war possible?

Some say the second Civil War is already underway. There is a definite divide, and it does seem to follow generally the old north versus south lines of the first war. However, the true cause is probably inequality, but instead of rising against the proponents of this division, they are captured by them. Trump may talk about draining swamps and making life better for ordinary folk, but he's part of the problem he claims to be the solution for. He's aided by the powers that perpetuate the divide, because it serves their corporate interests.

Therein lies the real problem. The US Congress with few exceptions is totally owned by corporates. Most policy is driven by corporate interests, and the capitalist ethic is all-pervading. If it doesn't make a profit, it's ignored. It's very difficult to see how significant reforms will ever take place.

A lot of influential Republican figures have turned their back on Trump, but that won't discourage Trump. The only way to stop him running is to find him guilty of one of a number of charges that are likely to be made soon. If he does run and DeSantis is his opponent in the primaries to be the official Republican candidate, Trump will make mincemeat of him. Trump is ruthless in all respects.

DeSantis is equally horrible.
The mentality of the right wingers really is astonishing.
Sure we all have different views. But to believe the things the Trump loyalists believe is astonishing to say the least.

I heard one Republican (forgot his name, sorry) Senator say “everything today is so leftist and woke”
What planet are they on.? Leftist..do they ever watch Fox?
Media is inundated with right wing rhetoric.
They have no idea what WOKE means.
How is it possible for nut cases like Qanon even to get considered? .
Most Americans do not know what socialist actually means.
They think to be called Green is an insult.
Where the hell did this stuff come from?
We cannot unfortunately say ignore them and think they will go away. They wont. Not yet any way.
America the beautiful has gone. Guns have been used to decimate wild life andnpeople.

History has clearly taught us that will not happen ignoring the madnenss is never going to work. The plight of millions of innocent people under the Reich continued because so few stood up.
We need to fight them with anything other than violence.
Civil war? Once I would have said “never, no way” I am no longer convinced.

The US is an empire in decline. A book I read back in the sixties by C Northcote Parkinson (the Parkinson's Law man) called "East and West" forecast that the US and most Western countries (and he included Russia) would decline while the East would rise and become dominant. It's proven to be the case. The book is out of print unfortunately.
