Russian influence on US politics

Post by Perrorist » 30 Jul 2017, 21:01

This is a long read, but is a good backgrounder if you're following the inquiry by the US Congress into Russia's influence on the last election, It's an extraordinary story. https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/ar ... ee/534864/

After reading that report one could very well assume
Russian interference in the Clinton campaign.
However voting numbers which got Trunp over
the line would be hard to dismiss, do you smell a Rat Perry.

Virtually the whole of the U.S. intelligence community agree that Russia was actively engaged in influencing the outcome of the 2016 Presidential campaign. Only Trump himself seems to be dismissive of the idea, but I think that the court of popular opinion has already condemned him and Putin for misconduct in the election. I was hopelessly wrong (along with countless others) in my prediction that Trump could never win the Presidency and yet I would still bet my kaboose that he will either not serve out his first term or at least have no chance of a second.

Can anyone see trump going full term?
At the very least there will gridlock and endless court cases.
Will any of the business of of government get done?
A cornered rat like Trump could well grab the well trodden path of starting a war
North Korea????

Trump's Russian business interests may be under threat if he doesn't deliver what Putin wants.

Did someone say war, wait,? it's a neighbor of China do we imagine
they will stand by and watch as missiles fly over their air space from
South Korea, Japan, and the US. 8-[ 8-[ 8-[ :teary

You need to consult a map GD....missiles from those places would reach North Korea without passing over Chinese airspace. That said, I cant see China tolerating any kind of invasion of NK and I understand that they have been massing troops and equipment close to their border with NK....."just in case".

Trump and the US overstate the influence that China has over North Korea. NK is not a client state. The benefit to China is restricted to NK acting as a buffer between it and South Korea. It doesn't want US troops and their proxies on the border, just the same as Russia doesn't like the US locating missile bases close to its western flank. The US is provocative, believing its superior military strength allows it to act without serious risk of retaliation.

Surely the bulk of the American population must now be realising that they have elected an imbecile to the highest office in the land. If they dont find a way to get rid of him soon, the whole world may yet again be plunged into war.

Kfhugo the majority of Americans did not vote for him. The only people who voted for Trump were people that Hilarie absolutely correctly called deplorables. Many decent Republicans did not vote at all. The Trump voters are extreme right or Bible belt morons. Lets stop being polite and mincing words.

Bearing in mind that voting is voluntary in the States, the actual percentage of the population that voted for trump is more like 25%.

Well, by whatever means, Trump is now the President and it is HIS finger on the nuclear button and that does nothing to help me sleep at night. :character-oldtimer:

My belief, right or wrong, is that both parties were deep in less-than-worthy policy, backed by the military. America has done some deplorable things, I believe more so than Russia who is our bogeyman. I believe both USA and Russia spy on and infiltrate each other to their ability, and hesitate to disclose too much fearing to incriminating themselves. It is true that the electronic voting machines can be hacked and it looks like they were, but who by?

All I hope is that system reform will eventuate - a good omelette result now the eggs have been smashed! Perhaps this is also what some Russians want.
I dream, therefore I am.

63 million voted for trump, that's a lot of millions.
Map: Red shows Trump states
.......Blue shows Clinton states.
Clinton was thrashed in the electoral college (304 vs 228)
she was not cheated, robbed, or beaten by russians.
She was on the nose, Use by date well and truly expired.

Interesting post Buck and while I think your comments about Hilary are well founded, you are at odds with most of the U.S. intelligence community. They have found widespread evidence of leaked documents and spreading of misinformation and/or disinformation by the Russians which no doubt helped Trump to win. Whether or not Russian interference altered the outcome of the election is certainly open to debate but the fact that they DID INTERFERE seems incontravertable.
