Who is your Australian of the year?

For me its obvious.
MAGDA Szubanski

A down to earth non intellectual almost ordinary lady was able to get through the message better than anyone. An actress and performer spoke for equality better than anyone.
The other is the late John Clark. Totally unique and irreplaceable.
Love to know your choices.

There are thousands of ordinary people doing wonderful things for their communities. I would like to see one of them honoured.
Why does it have to be a celebrity?

I'm not a religious person, but I'd nominate Fr Rod Bowers. Also: Gillian Triggs (Human Rights Commission); Dean Smith, the Liberal MP who quietly worked towards getting the SSM law passed; and all those who go to great lengths to help others without drawing attention to themselves.

Agree with Perro. Gillian Triggs is my choice too.
She was doing a wonderful job before being denigrated by MT and his cohorts!

Go Gillian go, just ignore the detractors!!!

Some wonderful suggestions here. I suppose there are many more out of the public spotlight, but I think the idea is to acknowledge the publicity, the showing of their light to others who might be encouraged by their example?

I'm more than happy with the one we have this year. Science needs all the help it can get at the moment.
