Cash Payment for Franked Dividends

Post by Perrorist » 14 Mar 2018, 11:30

Anyone affected by Labor's proposal to stop cash payments for franked dividends that exceed tax assessment? Turnbull's not happy about it.

I have a small parcel of shares with fully franked dividends, but have never considered the refund mine to take. I have already sent Bill a tweet to go for his life.

Apparently, Howard was behind the tax give-aways, to help win elections.

The article fails to mention that in July 2000 'Costello' introduced the GST, in 2015 that was $55 billion per year.
and cutting income tax was part of the GST package.
Yes, it was generous deal to get the package thru the senate swill, -Meg Lees tried to water down the package via exemptions.
That ruined the mathematics of the package, but that was what it took to get the package past the Swill.

A reply to sir nudge of Gympie regarding the Senate and some of its powers snippet The Senate is given important powers under the “advice and consent” provisions (Article II, section 2) of the Constitution: ratification of treaties requires a two-thirds majority of all senators present and a simple majority for approval of important public appointments, such as those of cabinet members, ambassadors, :nahnahnah :nahnahnah :nahnahnah :nahnahnah

You have to have a pretty hefty share portfolio to generate a cash refund. Focusing on people with low incomes while ignoring their sizable assets is a recipe for rorting.

To add clarity to this: When this scheme was introduced there was a 15% tax on super earnings. Costello removed this later, enhancing the cash refund as a result.
