I love maths tricks. This one really works! It will take you only about ten seconds and, amazingly, it will reveal your all-time favourite movie.

I did it in my head, then on paper, and finally on a calculator just to confirm my mathematical calculations. Each time I got the same answer, and sure enough, it IS my very favourite movie ... EVER!

DO NOT cheat. DO YOUR maths, THEN compare the results on the list of movies at the bottom.

You will be AMAZED at how scary true and accurate this test is:

1. Pick a number from 1-9.

2. Multiply that number by 3.

3. Add 3.

4. Multiply by 3 again.

5. Your total will be a two digit number. Add the first and second digits together to find your favourite movie (of all time) in the list of 17 movies below:

You can't get away from 9s. One of the tricks I learned years ago is that if you add the digits together and it's divisible by 3, then the number is divisible by 3. I can't remember if it's true with 9, but the nine times table always gives a result where the digits added together equal 9, e.g. 18, 27, 36, 45... That's why the puzzle required you to multiply by 3 twice.

Another trick: To multiply a two-digit number by 11, add the two digits together and insert the result in the middle. For example, 25 x 11 is 275 (2+5 = 7, thus 275). And 29 x 11 is 319 (2+9 = 11. The result is split so that the unit is placed in the middle and the ten part is added to the first digit.)

Yep.... that number nine has a lot going for it.

When I was younger (this was before pocket calculators were invented) and studying for a maths examination in my job, I was taught the "rule of nine" which was a simple, accurate and quick way to check my figures before moving on to the next question.

But.... do you think I can remember how to use the "rule of nine'. Nope !
