Need identification

Post by Perrorist » 29 Aug 2019, 16:41

I'm in Port Douglas (FNQ) at the moment and came across this strange object, which was prevalent in the area near the marina. I'm hoping someone might know what it is.

If that's a nest made of leaves and a web, I would guess a caterpillar, (web worm?) or a spider, might be responsible, but it looks too defined.

The green tree ant is definitely feasible, as there were termite mounds in the area as well.
