Cough to stop heartattack

Post by captjack » 16 Jul 2016, 12:34

Received this from a friend - has anyone heard this is true?

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.
A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.
A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it to regain a normal rhythm.
In this way, heart attack victims can get help or to a hospital.

A cardiologist says: "If everyone who gets this email & kindly sends it to 10 people, you can bet that we'll save at least one life.

If you knew exactly what you were doing, this procedure might help save your life. If, however, you were to attempt cough CPR at the wrong time (because you misjudged the kind of cardiac event being experienced) or went about it in the wrong way, it could make matters worse.

Best to Google the subject before any emergency arises, I think

I read some time ago that this was a rumour doing the rounds and not health advice.

As you're asked to send the email to 10 people then it sounds more like a phishing trip and not something from a medical source.

Thank you for this. It has been around for a long time.
I have kept a bottle of nitrolingual pump spray in my drawer given to me buy a doctor years ago. Is this a bad idea? I have never used it.

And if you combined it with your moonshine, you'd get to the far reaches of outer space much faster than NASA could.

I dont make moonshine but I have made a pretty lethal grappa. That could send me to another planet.
