In a forest, a young turtle is climbing a tree trunk with difficulty. Every time he gets so far, he slides down a bit. Still, he perseveres, and after an arduous climb, he arrives at the highest branch, which he crawls along until he's close to the edge. He leaps off. A second later, THUD! He lies spreadeagled on the ground.
Undeterred, he begins climbing the tree again. As before, his progress is hampered by constantly sliding back, but after half-an-hour he finally reaches the top branch. He make his way along it until he pauses and stands on his hind legs. Without hesitation, he hurls himself off. THUD! He lies sprawled on the ground again.
He collects himself and heads back to the tree. Yet another ambitious climb. And yet again he finds himself on the highest limb. Once more he launches himself off, only to end up like a starfish on the ground below.
On a neighbouring tree branch sit two crows.
One says to the other, "You know, I think it's time we told little Tommy he's adopted."
