Post by mavisbramston » 04 Jan 2019, 08:32

I am frequently delighted by the lines or lyrics used by composers. Love to know some of your favourites

This one I love. Itsfrom the great astephen asondheim s SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE

The puddle where the poodle did the piddle

I am not anticipating much interest in this but hell...why hot give it a try.

Not exactly a catchy little number you can sing along to is it! :icon-mrgreen:

I confess I'm not a lover of modern musicals.

The puddle where the poodle did the piddle is perhaps
the most over rated puddle in the world
for the puddle full of piddle where the poodle did a wee
is polluted now - no use to man or bird. \:D/ :heeheehee

Of course Cole Porter was a master of the lyric

… You're the top! You're the Louvre Museum,
You're a melody from a symphony by Strauss,
You're a Bendel bonnet, a Shakespeart sonnet,
You're Mickey Mouse.…

=D= Wonderful

Richard Rogers was a bit of a genius too.
One of my favourites....

OOOOO-klahoma,
where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain,
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.

I did love the movies of these musicals when it was just 2/6d in the circle if you were flush :icon_biggrin:

Don't anyone try and tell me they didn't sing that instead of just reading the words.
If you know it it's impossible not to - imho

Lynny. From CAROUSEL

The first time he kissed me the whiff from his clothes
Knocked me flat on the floor of the room
But now that I love him, my heart's in my nose
And fish is my fav'rite perfume
