The Nature Conservacy

Post by Dreamweaver » 25 Jan 2019, 20:50

One of the most important wetlands in the Riverina has been saved from potential conversion into cotton or rice farms in what's being claimed as the largest purchase of private land for conservation in Australia's history.
The Great Cumbung Swamp, formerly owned by the Roberts-Thomson family, will be managed by The Nature Conservancy as part of a land-for-conservation purchase.
The Nature Conservancy has raised $55 million in philanthropy to buy the Juanbung and Boyong cattle stations on the confluence of the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan rivers.
One aim will be to restore connections between the Murrumbidgee and Lachlan rivers that now only happen in rare flood events.
Such an outcome "could have huge environmental benefits for the Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and Murray rivers", Rich Gilmore, country manager for The Nature Conservancy, said.

Great move but it does not let the government off the hook. Their responsibility still stands.

I hope her wise words managed to penetrate their egos.......

"I think it's very insane and weird that people come here in private jets to discuss climate change. It's not reasonable," Thunberg said.
